The city maintains over 260 acres of parks, trails and open spaces that are dotted around the quiet neighborhoods and lakes found within its borders. Miles of trails wind through rural, picturesque settings and past natural wetlands and lakes. Orono offers many outdoor recreation possibilities with two public golf courses, three private courses, five public marinas, 14 public access points on Lake Minnetonka, and two major regional rails. Enjoy boating on Long Lake or Lake Minnetonka, biking the Dakota Regional Trail or strolling through the Noerenberg Memorial Gardens.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

The Navarre neighborhood is located in the southern part of Orono and is a central part of the Lake Minnetonka community. On the corner of Shoreline Drive and Shadywood Road you will find a bustling commerce district with local shops and eateries. The Narrows Saloon is a cornerstone of the community serving up traditional American meals and beverages with live musical acts during the weekends. Just a little further up the street is Lord Fletcher's Old Lake Lodge. Since 1968, this local destination has been catering to the Lake Minnetonka community with an elevated dining room setting featuring steaks and seafood while it’s lakeside Wharf invites boaters to take a break from the lake with burgers and draft beers. Head north to the shores of Long Lake where you will find another trendy dining spot, Birches on the Lake Brewhouse & Supper Club provides patrons with craft beers and cocktails, delicious menu options and live music set against a stunning backdrop of lake views.  

 

Things to Do

With all the dedicated park land and open spaces, Orono doesn’t disappoint when it comes to outdoor activities. The city owned Orono Public Golf Course offers a picturesque setting that is sure to please golfers of all skill levels. Known for its family friendly atmosphere, the course opens during the weekends over winter for sledding. Sited on the shore of Crystal Bay, Noerenberg Memorial Gardens is regarded as one of the finest formal gardens in Minnesota. Stroll the grounds while taking in the beautiful flowers and Lake Minnetonka views. The Dakota Regional Trail offers residents and visitors the perfect venue to explore Orono and the Lake Minnetonka area with over 13 miles of paved trails traversing the communities across the north side of Lake Minnetonka.
